Home Energy Assessments/Audits
Congratulations on taking the first step in creating a healthier, more comfortable and energy efficient home. Below you will find information regarding our Home Energy Assessment process or “Audits”, as they are commonly referred too. We are certified by RESNET and BPI, the only two home energy auditing certifications; something to ask for no matter who you talk too.
Level 1 - Home Energy Analysis (HEA):
-
Addresses & specifically target any preexisting issues within the home. For an example check out our 10 Common Household Issues (Downloadable PDF).
-
Energy Analysis: Consultation with the client to assess their needs and goals, analyze the baseline usage from past energy bills, and discover areas for possible savings
-
Complete visual inspection of the property/structure, attic, mechanical equipment, basement or crawlspace, lights and fixtures to assess condition and possible improvements.
Diagnostic testing for:
Air Leaks – Infiltration of outside air from unconditioned zones can drive up energy costs, cause health and indoor air quality (IAQ) issues, cause mold and moisture damage, and allow a pathway for pathogens and pests. Tests is done using a Blower Door.
Pricing begins at $ 249
Price is for a home 2500 sqft or less, with one HVAC system.

Air Leaks – Infiltration of outside air from unconditioned zones can drive up energy costs, cause health and indoor air quality (IAQ) issues, cause mold and moisture damage, and allow a pathway for pathogens and pests. Tests is done using a Blower Door.

Leaky Ductwork – Duct leakage is one of the most common issues found in older homes. Most ducts are located in unconditioned zone like attics, crawlspaces, etc. When we have duct leakage it not only drives up energy bills, but sacrifices comfort and can have negative health affect because it pulls air from crawlspaces, basements, and attics; places where pests and insects and a host of other pathogens live.

-
Humidity Levels - Ever have windows that sweat during the summer? This is a evidence of high humidity. We check humidity levels in conditioned and unconditioned zones due to the damage it can cause to building materials and its relation to mold. That is without mentioning the negative affects it has on your comfort and health. Ideal humidity levels recommended by the Department of Energy are 30-50%.

Home Energy Assessment/Audit Frequently Asked Questions:
If I pay for an energy analysis, can I apply that towards a Home Energy Assessment at a later time?
Absolutely. All of our assessments are tiered which means you can upgrade anytime and we just roll what you've already paid into the next level.
What determines the price of Comprehensive Energy & Performance Assessments and Home Energy Analysis?
Prices fluctuate based on size and number of HVAC units.
Aside from identifying energy usage , what are some of the benefits of a HEPA or HEA?
While identifying ways to save money (energy) is one of our primary focuses, health and safety are first and foremost.. Combustion Safety, or the assurance of proper venting of Gas appliances (water heaters and furnaces) is an example of something we can address while at your home. We've found issues with mold, improper insulation, improper HVAC sizing, installation, poor duct design, moisture problems, potential moisture issues, structural issues, etc. We are building scientist and technicians. Identifying issues within a home is our specialty and we pride ourselves on giving you a pathway to improving your home while keeping your health & safety, comfort, and pocket books front of mind.
